Event Photography at a Networking Evening in Stockholm, Sweden
One of the event organizers—a marketing manager and former editor-in-chief of a popular lifestyle magazine—reached out to me prior to the event. Her vision and my expertise matched, and I knew right away this was going to be an exciting project. She trusted me completely—I was given full creative freedom throughout the evening. That trust matters so much. When organizations choose a professional photographer for their events, the style and the vision should truly align for the end result to connect with organizational values and positioning. This project was a perfect example of that.
The venue was a popular bar in the very heart of Stockholm—colorful, hazy lamps, low light, and an atmosphere that felt very Japan-inspired. That’s how I imagine wandering the streets of Tokyo at night. The lighting was challenging—dim, flickering, with constantly shifting colors—but my vintage Japanese lens loved this scenario and truly shone. I purposefully chose not to use flash, so as not to distract the participants. Instead, I worked in a very documentary style—moving around the venue, searching for different faces, genuine emotions, and flattering angles.
It was several hours of people arriving, greeting each other, connecting. People who met for the first time and those who had known each other for years—all under the same roof. There must have been a few hundred people at the venue throughout the evening—some were coming and going, while others stayed from the beginning till the end. Catching these important moments is what I love the most about photographing events.
The images you see here are just a selection—I chose a few to illustrate how I made the best of this setting. But the response afterward meant everything. Here is what the organizer said when I delivered the finished gallery: “As an ex editor-in-chief of a lifestyle magazine I say this with all the authority—amazing reportage of our event!” Another organizer added: “Alina totally nailed capturing the atmosphere of our event!” Event partners called the work “stunning, cozy, and soulful,” and one participant simply said: “These look so professional—wow.” After such overwhelmingly positive feedback, I was invited to shoot another event—this time an outdoor networking picnic in the summer, right before I left Sweden.
If you want images that feel like stills from a movie, I am your photographer. My images radiate emotions and genuine connections—they capture the atmosphere just as it was, yet more elevated, a little more dream-like.
