Creative Editorial Portraits at a Rose Garden in Portland

Late spring—one of my absolute favorite seasons to create and shoot creative portrait sessions outdoors, in natural light. When literally the entire city is swarmed in bloom and color, one simply can’t resist placing their models in the midst of it all.

Having been to the International Rose Test Garden in Portland when the roses only started to open up, I became deeply inspired by the setting as it reminded me of one of my favorite stories—Beauty and the Beast. I instantly felt enchanted by thousands upon thousands of roses, their absolute beauty, and perfect grace. In connection to that, I also found inspiration in Lana Del Rey’s song “National Anthem.” I pitched the whole creative concept to Kylie, professional runway model, and she loved the idea, leaving us with a vintage-inspired, slightly enchanted-feeling story to create.

By working together for a second time, we instantly created a comfortable atmosphere in which we could unleash our creativity and bounce ready-to-test ideas throughout the shoot. We succeeded in capturing Kylie in a gentle, slightly mysterious way while embracing her stunning beauty with a sea of roses in full bloom.
